Sanyo SCP-6760 Incognito – invisible touch-pad & display on exterior
For:
Satisfactory captured photo and good call quality; great messaging keyboard; useful feature set.
Against:
Speakerphone call quality was average with low volume; small and not so useful monochrome external display.
The Whiz Kid Speaks:
Sanyo SCP-6760 Incognito is based on CDMA2000 1X technology and supports dual-band of CDMA2000 1X 800/1900. The Incognito has inbuilt 60MB memory and micro-SD card slot that accepts up to 16GB. The phone ships with a 1GB micro-SD card inside the box. It supports Bluetooth 2.0 EDR wireless interface.
Small monochrome OLED external display and touch-pad sits on the exterior. 2.6 inches LCD internal display has 240×320 pixels resolution. The Incognito has English and Spanish as display languages.
2-megapixel camera features digital zoom, self-timer and video recording. The video recording resolution options are 128×96, and 176×144. In addition, it has four image storage resolution options including 320×240 and 1600×1200. Messaging features include instant messages, text and multimedia messages.
The SCP-6760 Incognito has two connectors: 1×USB, and 1×2.5mm headset jack – mini-phone. 840mAH lithium ion battery has a life of 306 minutes. Accessories supplied inside the box are micro-SD card adapter, 1GB micro-SD card, power charger, and battery.
Razzle Dazzle:
Sanyo SCP-6760 Incognito is 3.7 inches tall, 2.7 inches wide, and 0.7 inch deep and weighs 4.3 ounces. It has folder-type design that looks attractive, but makes it look a bit bulky. The front surface is reflective and works as fingerprint magnet to attract smudges.
Inside Dope:
Can you see an alphanumeric touch-pad on the front surface? No, then flick a small switch on left spine. Now, it will show the touch-pad on the front. This is about the Sanyo SCP-6760 Incognito that has horizontal flip design like LG enV Touch. The SCP-6760 has a bit in common with Pantech Impact for AT&T. Both the Impact and the Incognito look little quirky due to their small displays and touch-sensitive keypads on the exterior. On opening, both of them reveal color displays and QWERTY keyboards. Not only this, but they also offer several same features such as 2-megapixel camera, music player, and 3G support. In contrast, we like the built and keyboard of the SCP-6760 Incognito. The speakerphone call quality is low, while the exterior touch interface and excellent messaging keyboard will draw the attention of large consumer base. The Incognito costs $49 with Sprint service contract after mail-in-rebate of $50.

Design
You have to flick a small switch at the left spine to access the touch-pad and display on exterior. This touch surface is slippery and has small mono-chrome display on the top of keypad. You can customize the touch sensitivity and vibrating feedback intensity. Volume rocker, voice dialing control, micro-USB charger socket, and micro-SD card slot are located on the right spine. You will find the 2.5mm headset jack on the bottom, but we will prefer to have a 3.5mm one, especially for a music phone. The camera lens and speakers sit on the rear side. You have to horizontally flip open the phone to access internal display and QWERTY keyboard.
Display
Monochrome external display on the front surface is small and cannot display photo caller ID. However, it provides the access to few menu options. It will also remain invisible with keypad until you flick the button.
2.6-inch internal display of Sanyo SCP-6760 Incognito has 320×240 pixels resolution that supports 262,000 colors. The display is enough vibrant and bright to show sharp graphics and colors. We like that the menu interface is simple and Sprint has also added its OneClick interface to offer customizable shortcuts. Sanyo SCP-6760 Incognito features landscape orientation to rotate the display for easy usage. You can customize backlight and brightness for the internal display.
Navigation Array
The touch-sensitive pad on exterior consists of four directional arrows with central OK button, Talk key, End button, back key, and 12-digit alphanumeric keypad. All these keys are spacious and will provide vibrating feedback on pressing.
Keyboard
You will find two soft keys underneath the internal display. These keys are directly below their corresponding onscreen commands. QWERTY keyboard sits under soft keys and has three rows. All keys are well-separated and large in size. It provides better typing experience with good accuracy. Sanyo SCP-6760 Incognito has one of the most comfortable QWERTY keyboards for messaging.
A navigation toggle, emoticons shortcut key, messaging menu button, speakerphone key, camera button, back control, Talk key, and End/Power buttons are also there on the QWERTY keyboard.
Phonebook and PIM features
Sanyo SCP-6760 Incognito can store 500 contacts in its phone book. Each contact can save multiple numbers, one email address, one instant messenger ID, street address, notes and a URL. You can organize the contacts into groups and pair them with ring-tone and photos for caller ID.
The essential feature set includes world clock, stopwatch, speakerphone, countdown timer, calculator, alarm clock, threaded text and multimedia messaging, and 37 polyphonic 72-chord ring-tones. The additional highlights are 3G support, WAP 2.0 browser, PC synchronization, USB mass storage, speaker-independent voice dialing and commands, instant messengers, voice recorder, and Bluetooth with stereo profile.
Camera
2-megapixel camera of Sanyo SCP-6760 Incognito features multi-shot mode, digital zoom, video recording, and self-timer. Other image editing options include few scene modes, three shutter sounds, various fun frames, white-balance, contrast, sharpness, brightness, image quality and four resolutions. You can record videos in two modes: 35 seconds for MMS and longer in normal mode. The video editing options are similar to that of still capture. You can transfer the captured pictures via MMS, print them via Bluetooth or PictBridge, and upload them to online album hosted by Sprint.
Sprint Services
Sprint has also included its services in Sanyo SCP-6760 Incognito. It includes wireless backup service to save the contacts, Sprint Navigation – Family Locater service, and POP3/IMIAP4/SMTP accounts. Need more – then it also has Sprint TV for on-demand live programs on various channels, Sprint Music Store for downloading songs to your phone and computer, Sprint Movies, and Sprint Radio.
Music Player
The music player interface of Sanyo SCP-6760 Incognito is similar to other Sprint 3G handsets. It features airplane mode, album art, shuffle and repeat modes. The phone also allows running the player in background.
Games and Personalization
Sanyo SCP-6760 Incognito comes with preinstalled Nascar Cup Mobile, Social Zone, SprintNFL Mobile Live, and Google Search. It also has access to MySpace, Twitter, and Facebook. The Incognito comes with three demo games – Uno, The Price is right, and Sonic the Hedgehog. You can customize the phone with screensavers, wallpapers, clock formats, and greeting. What’s more – You can buy their full versions and download more options through WAP browser.
Call Quality
We made few calls through dual-band based Sanyo Incognito SCP-6760 via Sprint service for testing. The overall call quality was good. We received natural, loud and clear sound with strong signal strength at our end. The callers also received clear sound with little buzz occasionally at their end. The speakerphone call quality was average. Both of us received distorted sound even at low volumes. The Bluetooth headset calls were fine.
Battery Life
Sanyo SCP-6760 Incognito has battery life of 5.1 hours of talk time. Its digital SAR is 1.28 watts per kg in accordance with FCC radiation tests.
Verdict:
If you need a handset with touch-sensitive keypad, excellent QWERTY keyboard, and good call quality, but does not mind smudge-prone exterior then buy – Sanyo SCP-6760 Incognito.
