Nokia 7210 supernova review – No bells and whistles

thumbnail
This phone is the successor to Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone and the manufacturer sent me the Nokia 7210 supernova review model in my labs. It is a thin, light and small handset and is light on the pockets too. However, the phone is light on pockets too but still gives you great value for money. It is a good phone with a decent performance provided you keep your expectations under control. My Nokia 7210 supernova review model was 106mm tall, 10.6mm thick, 45mm wide and the weight was about 70 grams. It is a really nice looking phone. Nokia sent me a blue version and there were turquoise highlights on number pad area and turquoise edging. This phone is offered in grey and pink options too. All the three versions have  [...]

Xperia Play from Verizon will be out by May

thumbnail
Sony Ericsson didn’t get any new phones for CTIA 2011 but we still got to check out the Verizon Wireless Sony Ericsson Xperia Play. The manufacturer said that the Android gaming device will be available in the US later this month or early next month. We believe that Verizon Wireless will be the first carrier ever to get Xperia Play. Canada might beat this date with a GSM version of the handset on 14th of April but either way, it means North America will be getting Xperia Play before Asia and Europe. This is a big change from earlier devices from this company. Also noteworthy is that this is the first CDMA phone from this company in years. Except for the branding of carrier, this phone is the same as the global version that we saw in Mobile World Congress. There are some modifications inside though. For instance, Verizon has stocked this phone with Android Kindle app, some of the proprietary services like VZ Navigator, Skype  [...]

AT&T says T-Mobile 3G Phones will have to be replaced

thumbnail
AT&T said that if the deal to buy T-Mobile USA for $39 billion is completed, the first task will be to replace the 3G phones for keeping the wireless broadband service working. However, there is plenty of time to do this. The deal needs to be approved by the regulators first and it might take around one year to complete the takeover. AT&T said that they are planning to change the way the cell towers of T-Mobile work. Airwaves which are used for 3G or third generation gadgets will be moved for 4G technology as it is faster. Due to this, the T-Mobile phones running on 3G won’t work and instead, they will be replaced with phones having frequencies of AT&T’s 3G. AT&T's head of wireless and consumer services, Ralph de la Vega said that the deal would happen like normal process of phone upgrade. He said in an interview that there isn’t much to worry about and the process would be good for customers and for AT&T  [...]

BlackBerry 8900 review – Aesthetically pleasing

thumbnail
BlackBerry Curve 8900 is recommended if BlackBerry Bold is too bold for you and if the BlackBerry Storm isn’t enough to keep your boat floating. BlackBerry 8900 review says that this is the latest email centric handset from this manufacturer. It is one of the most compact phone I have ever seen from this company and looks really great. It is available from Carphone Warehouse and T-Mobile and you can get it for free on monthly contract. My BlackBerry 8900 review model had a few design characteristics of both the BlackBerry Bold 9000 and BlackBerry Curve 8310. It is an attractive looking compact handset which shows off the aesthetic prowess. The device feels and looks like a quality product and also fits in the pocket comfortably. The dimensions of the phone are pretty good, it is neither too big or small and it isn’t too light or heavy either. 8900 looks smart but certainly isn’t boring and is recommended for both businessmen and teenagers.  [...]

Motorola V8 Luxury – Good displays

thumbnail
Motorola V8 Luxury is the successor to Razr V3 which sold really well in the market for three years. This phone is also called Motorola RAZR2 V8. It comes with a full metal jacket along with gradating dark pearl gray hues. This phone is made for fashion enthusiasts and certainly makes a good first impression. The phone has two high quality screens having QVGA resolution along with GSM quad band support, stereo Bluetooth and 2 megapixels camera. This cellphone delivers both style and functionality. The luxury edition of this phone has gold plated body along with soft back that is snake like. People who drool on exotic glamour will certainly drool on the design. The silhouette of Motorola V8 Luxury is graceful and my favorite feature of this handset is the mere 11.9 mm thickness. It is really impressive considering that it is a clamshell phone. Rounded edges and clean shape makes the slim phone look quite solid.  [...]

Motorola Z6c – dual mode capabilities

thumbnail
Motorola Z6c is a dual band cell phone that uses Verizon Wireless CDMA network when you are in US and when you are traveling abroad, it uses the GSM network of that country. This is a good idea if you are traveling abroad frequently. The camera of this phone is located on the rear face but I was disappointed to see that there wasn’t flash or self-portrait mirror. Controls on the sides include volume rocker and Motorola smart key on left and on the right spine, you have microUSB port, handset lock button and voice dialing button. I was disappointed to see that the manufacturer moved the memory card slot behind the battery cover. You will have to dig inside every time you want to access the memory card. The SIM card slot is located behind the phone’s battery and it is for the GSM networks. Motorola  [...]

Sony Ericsson Z530i – cool clamshell phone

thumbnail
Sony Ericsson Z530i is an updated version of Sony Ericsson Z520i. Both the cell phones have the same design along with loop aerial. The specifications too are quite similar on both the phones. But on the new version the manufacturer has given an expandable memory slot and new keypad. I wasn’t really convinced by the fish scale keypad design but the increased storage space is great news. Sony Ericsson Z530i is offered for free if you sign a service agreement from Vodafone, O2 and Carphone Warehouse. On the front, the Sony Ericsson Z530i has monochrome orange screen which shows you the battery life, time and date, signal strength, incoming calls or messages, and the track time and title of the song. The display is surrounded by silver reflective border and it features the company logo and the phone model name. Above the display, there is a 0.3 megapixel camera along with portrait mirror. The rest of front section is made up of rubber  [...]

Samsung Blue Earth – A green phone

thumbnail
Samsung Blue Earth is an example of the fact that this company is doing their two bits to go green. We first had Samsung Reclaim some days ago and I got the Samsung Blue Earth in my labs for review. I was excited to see this phone as Samsung had held all the details for several months. The shell of Samsung Blue Earth is made up of recycled materials just like the Reclaim. These materials include plastic water bottles and on the back, there are solar panels. There is a standard wall charger in the box but these panels too can help you get the phone alive and kicking. There are no harmful materials used in making the phone like polyvinyl chloride and the battery usage of the phone can be minimized if you adjust the display settings. Apart from this green features, the phone has a functional feature set but the tiny touch screen hampers  [...]
