Microsoft had announced on September 1 that latest Windows Mobile 6.5 will be shipped with first batch of smartphones running its mobile OS from October 6. Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer HTC had announced on the next day to launch HTC Touch2 with latest Windows Mobile 6.5. Motorola made a lot of money with Droid last year, it was a big hit in the smartphone market. Motorola Droid was the first phone for Google Android OS that offered numerous features and satisfactory performance. Now, the company has launched Motorola Devour to repeat its success. It is also the first smartphone to bring MotoBlur interface in the market. The touch-screen display of this phone is small and work has to be done to improve user controls. Still, the Devour remains solid member of the Android family. It is a good alternative for the Droid smartphone. Motorola Devour costs around $149 with a contract from Verizon Wireless with mail-in-rebate. As a result, the Devour has $50 less cost as compared to its predecessor, Motorola Droid. Motorola has released its new clamshell handset – Entice W766 for Verizon Wireless. It looks like the Rapture VU30 that was released by the company last year. However, the W766 is not shiny and sleek as the Rapture. Motorola Entice W766 has touch-sensitive external keys, EV-DO support and 2-megapixel camera. Overall, it is a good and midrange handset that offers good call quality and multimedia features. Motorola Entice W766 costs around $19.99 with two-year contract from Verizon Wireless and mail-in rebate of $70. The W766 has dedicated controls for music player, Bluetooth and speakerphone on the lid, so there is no need to open the phone to access these options. Motorola has a great history of manufacturing cell phones. Now, the company has launched rugged handset, Motorola Barrage for Verizon Wireless. It is flip-design phone covered with tough plastic and rubber sidings. The rugged phone by Motorola offers decent call quality and functional feature set. The Barrage costs around $179 without any contract, it is also available with a 2 year contract from Verizon Wireless. This will cost you $129 along with a $50 mail-in rebate. Motorola Barrage handset does not have an attractive design but it is enough strong to handle shocks. We tested this by throwing the phone around and even put in inside the water. The handset could withstand all this. If you need a rugged handset that offers functional features, then we will recommend new Motorola Barrage. However, there were a few disappointments on the phone. Its 3G connection was a bit slow. Music and video quality too were unimpressive. Unlike other GPS-enabled smartphones, Garmin Nuvifone G60 comes preloaded with voice guided-directions and maps, so you do not have to subscribe for a premium location-based service. Garmin has 20 years of experience in the GPS market and it has a great history of manufacturing perfect portable navigation devices (PNDs). However, it still has to work to manufacture a better smartphone. The Nuvifone G60 is based on Linux operating system. It offers features like document viewer, email, calendar, HTML Browser, Wi-Fi, 3G Support, and more. However, the Nuvifone has limitations for each of the feature and still has some problem in its system and user-interface. RIM BlackBerry is one of the most famous manufacturers in the smartphones business. Now, the company has released RIM BlackBerry Curve 8530 for Verizon Wireless. It does not have some high-end features of BlackBerry Tour 9630 like high-resolution display and world roaming. The design and basic features of the Curve 8530 are similar to RIM BlackBerry Curve 8520 from T-Mobile. However, the Curve 8530 also offers some more features. The RIM BlackBerry Curve 8530 has various upgrades over its predecessor BlackBerry Curve 8330, like dedicated media controls, optical track-pad and latest processor. In addition, the Curve 8530 has Wi-Fi that was not present in the Tour 9630. RIM BlackBerry Curve 8530 costs $99.99 with a two-year contract from Verizon Wireless, which is $30 less as compared to price of the Curve 8520 for T-Mobile. The phone feels a bit cheap in the hand due to the plastic exteriors. We also didn’t like the fact that you cannot save applications to the phone’s internal memory.

Samsung Stunt SCH-r100 does not have anything new and is a simple communication phone. It has basic candy bar design and equipped with features such as voice commands and Bluetooth. The Stunt SCH-r100 does not have a music player and camera like other phones of its class. The overall call quality was decent, but there were tinny and fuzzy nuances. Samsung Stunt SCH-r100 is available from MetroPCS at $39 without any contract. The features and design of the Stunt are good for such a price range. The Stunt phone is flat to ears, but its mic is at a distance from your mouth due to its small size. The Stunt SCH-r100 has standard charging slot, like other models. The digital SAR of the Stunt is 1 watt per kilogram as per FCC radiation tests. If you need a basic handset with a browser and Bluetooth, then you can consider the new Samsung Stunt SCH-r100. the phone is sturdy, light and small.
