The Whiz Kid Speaks:
Huawei m750 cell phone

The service provider of Huawei M750 is MetroPCS. The cellular phone is based on CDMA2000 1x technology. It supports the CDMA 2000 1X 1900X800 / AWS 1700/1200 band. The wireless interface includes Bluetooth. The basic features are internal antenna, vibrating alert, polyphonic ringer, call timer and caller ID. The mobile phone supports the conference call capability.

2.8-inch LCD Display has 240×320 pixels resolution and 262,000-color. There is a 1.3 mega pixel inbuilt camera. For capturing images, phone has four fun frames, four color effects, multi shot mode, self timer, night mode and two shutter sounds with silent option. The phone has a micro SD card slot to support microSD cards up to 4GB. M750 has 1000 entry phone book and offers photo caller ID with 10 polyphonic ringtones. It has 2.5mm headset port.

M750 has a digital SAR of 1.14 watts per kg according to FCC. The M750 supports only 2.5 1xRTT networks. It has a MetroWeb browser is based on Access NetFrontWAP 2.0. The touch screen phone comes with a stylus. 1150mAH battery has a battery life of 360 minutes for talk time. The bundle package includes battery, wall charger and stylus.

Razzle Dazzle:

Huawei M750 (MetroPCS) is 4.2” long, 2.25” wide and 0.59” thick. M750 has a candy bar design and weighs 3.91 ounces. Our test model had a silver color body. It has simple rectangular look, which is quite similar to other touch screen phone. The phone has rounded corners, glossy front surface, gray color palette and matte finish on the back.

Inside Dope:

Huawei is not so famous in the United States and Europe because the company is basically into just basic entry level phones like this one. However, Huawei has attracted the market slowly in past year. It has built the T-Mobile Tap last year and now it is launching M750, which costs around $159 without a contract. CDMA2000 1x technology based M750 uses Metro PCS as its service provider. It supports the CDMA 2000 1X 1900X800 / AWS 1700/1200 band. The phone has additional features like 1.3 mega pixel camera, Web browser, Bluetooth and touch screen with some basic features to attract the market. The call quality was good and impressive. However, M750 didn’t impress us much because it lacked features like video player, video recorder and Wi-Fi etc. 2.8-inch size is a bit small for touch screens, but the display has vibrant colors. The phone does not have internal accelerometer to rotate the display, which is quite annoying for typing text messages.

Display

2.8-inch touch-screen has a resolution of 240×320 pixels. M750 does not have a video player and the display lacks accelerometer so you don’t a landscape mode when you tilt the phone. On the bright side, the display is sharp and colorful. Huawei M750 has a quick, responsive and intuitive touch screen. It will work more accurately when used with the bundled stylus instead of fingers. Touch Screen accuracy can be modified from the phone’s calibration wizard.

Navigation Array and Keyboard

For quick navigation, shortcuts to phone dialer, web browser, screen lock and Metro PCS Web Store are located on the bottom row of home screen. In addition to touch screen, navigation array is located beneath the display. It has an End/Power Key, a send Key, a square toggle with confirmation key in middle and two soft keys. The toggle also works as shortcuts to the above same options. You can press the middle key or tap once at home screen to bring the main menu.

For text messaging, you can use alphanumeric T9 keypad or full QWERTY keyboard using touch screen. The keys at keypad are flat to surface; however, the square toggle is an exception to it. There is no internal accelerometer in M750 due to which the QWERTY keyboard screen cannot be moved to landscape mode. The keyboard looks crowded with tiny keys in portrait mode. We recommend the stylus usage on the QWERTY Keyboard to avoid mishits.

The headset jack, charger jack and card slot are located on the left spine of the M750 whereas volume rocker and dedicated camera key are on its right spine. Stylus storage area is on the upper left corner at back. Camera lens and external speaker are also located on the back.

Internet and Messaging

The messaging features include Text Messages, Multimedia Messages, Picture Messages, Email, Voice Mail and Instant Messages. However, email client and messengers can be downloaded from MetroPCS Web Store at no extra cost. There is inbuilt MetroWeb Browser which is quite easy to use. It can start from the shortcut at home screen or from the toggle key shortcut. The web browser is based on Access NetFrontWAP 2.0 instead of full HTML. The M750 cannot be the best platform to use HTML browser without an accelerometer. While testing, simple WAP pages loads in 30 seconds.

Phonebook and PIM features

The Huawei M750 has a phone book to store 1000 entries. Each entry can store four numbers, a web address, notes and an e-mail address. The contacts can be paired with a photo for Caller ID, one of 10 polyphonic ring tones and can be added to groups. Furthermore, you can create the messaging group for sending SMS. MP3 files or own voice recording can also be used as ring tones. Basic features include memo pad, stopwatch, calculator, world clock, alarm clock, scheduler, text and multimedia messaging, speakerphone and vibrate mode. Advanced features include A-GPS, voice recorder, voice dialing and Bluetooth.

Camera

There is an inbuilt 1.3 mega pixel camera located at the back of M750. It gives good photo quality, images look sharp and colors are bright. There are four resolutions and three quality settings for capturing the images. The colors do not seem to be washed out. Camera cannot be used to shoot videos, because there is no camcorder mode.

Music Player

M750 has a simple music player interface; however, it does not have a video player which is quite annoying. Music player has settings for repeat and shuffle modes. It has four equalizer presets and allows you to create and edit play lists on the fly. M750 has 77MB of inbuilt memory and supports up to 4GB micro SD cards for music storage.

Personalization

We can modify the brightness, clock appearance on home screen, greeting banner text and backlight time. The menu interface cannot be changed; however, we are impressed with simple grid layouts and illuminated buttons. M750 has a good variety of built-in ring tones and wallpaper for personalization and it gives facility to download more from web store.

Call Quality

The call quality was great on the M750. On the calls, our friends sounded natural and there was little static noise but it didn’t bother us much. Our friends too could hear us clearly and voice was really loud at their end. The speakerphone quality was average. Although we were speaking closely to the mic yet our friends said that we sounded distant and muffled; however, we coud hear them clearly.

Battery life

The M750 has a battery life of 6 hours for talk time. The idle standby time is 11.5 days.

Verdict:

The Huawei M750 has a decent touch screen with 1.3 megapixel camera. It has a good battery life. If you like its basic features, then it is an attractive offer for you.
