Samsung Intrepid – wider body, better keyboard

thumbnail
Samsung Intrepid is Sprint’s first mobile phone to have a Windows Mobile 6.5 OS. The messaging features on good on the device but the looks aren’t impressive, it is wider than your standard QWERTY keyboard smart phone and it is a bit tough to carry it around. On the bright side, the wide body makes way for a keyboard with larger keys so it is easy to type messages and e-mail. We thought that the QWERTY keyboard on the Intrepid was one of the best ones we have ever laid our hands on in our lab tests. The wide phone also gives you a bigger display. The phone is touch screen and scrolling through the honey comb layout menu is really easy. The phone goes well with the new features provided on Windows Mobile 6.5 OS. The Intrepid has world roaming capabilities, in the US, it uses Sprint’s network and when traveling overseas it will switch to a compatible GSM network. The device is shipped with SIM card. One more feature worth mentioning here is 3.2 megapixel camera which takes good quality  [...]

Samsung Convoy SCH-U640 – mid range phone with some goodies tucked in

thumbnail
Samsung Convoy SCH-U640 is a rugged phone and will lock horns with Motorola Barrage which has a similar design. The phone can take water, there is protection around for this but it makes the phone look a bit boring. We had Sonim XP3 Quest cell phone in our test centers, which could take shocks and water. However, the loads of rubber padding around the phone made it look very ugly. This device is cannot take shocks and water like the Sonim counter part, but will survive occasional accidents. Considering the features it offers, we think this is a good mid range phone, it has a 2 mega pixel camera, music player, GPS and 3G. The phone isn’t costly; it costs about $99 with service and after the $50 mail in rebate. The handset has a clamshell design which looks cool but we all know that clamshell phones have lubricants between the hinges which dry out after which opening and closing the lid isn’t easy. However, if you intend to use the handset only for about 1-2 years, you need not worry  [...]
