S8300 Ultra Touch phone from Samsung

thumbnail
The name UltraTouch might sound like a beauty product to you but it is really all muscles. My Samsung S8300 Ultra Touch had a metal chassis with metallic rose, chocolate grey trimming. There is sharp rounding for the corners and the physical buttons are angular. All this makes the phone look really good. In fact, it is one of the prettiest handsets in the market right now. The best feature about the Samsung S8300 Ultra Touch is the AMOLED screen. This technology is better than traditional LCD screens and you get better quality pictures. The blacks are bold and deep and the white colors look rich. A big advantage of AMOLED screen is that you can view it from any angle and hence you don’t need to keep the phone in front of the face for reading it clearly. Samsung S8300 Ultra Touch is just a few millimeters thicker as compared to the slimmest touch screen phones in the market. The phone has a slider design and there is a numeric  [...]

SGH i550 phone from Samsung with a trackball

thumbnail
At first, the Samsung SGH i550 gives you the impression that it has got everything that you’d need in a cell phone. It has a metal keypad and the candy bar smartphone is running on the latest S60 OS 3rd edition Feature Pack 1. There is GPS, Wi-Fi, 3.5G, three megapixels camera, microSD expansion card slot, 3.5 mm headphones jack, lots of RAM, USB charging and 2.6 inches screen. It is just 13mm thick and is all black. The layout of the Samsung SGH i550 could have been better, it looks like kitchen sink design. The design is pretty solid with plastic molded chassis and the metal keypad plate adds a classy touch to the phone but overall speaking, the phone is not really as pretty as it should have been. Apart from the usual smartphone/S60 buttons, there are shortcut buttons for navigation, Web, and the media. You cannot change these assignments for your own choice of applications and this is really  [...]

Samsung Player Style – Improved UI

thumbnail
Samsung Player Style also goes by the name Samsung SGH-F480 in some parts of the world and this phone is really compact. It has a credit card like dimensions at 98.4mm by 55mm by 11.6mm. This phone is also a bit bigger than Samsung’s own Armani phone and it is a bit smaller as compared to LG’s Prada. Samsung Player Style has a metal chassis which gives it a very reliable and solid feel in the hand. The front estate is dominated by a generous 2.8 inches screen. The display is glossy and hence it attracts a lot of fingerprints. I would recommend hygiene freaks to keep a cleaning cloth close for wiping it. Samsung Player Style or Samsung SGH-F480 has physical call and end buttons on the bottom close to a key which activates shortcut menu. The most useful button here, according to me is the Hold tab which locks the screen and buttons against any unwanted  [...]

Samsung i7410 – Built-in projector!

thumbnail
Samsung is keeping things under its hats with finer details of the Samsung i7410 which is the latest phone from this manufacturer. But one thing that we can say for sure is that it is a great phone with a projector built in. Through this, you can project video clips, photos and images on a screen or wall. This is really fantastic. You can display content up to a maximum of 50 inches in size and it is like watching a 50 inch TV that you’d use in conference and board meetings for your presentation displays. This means that you can get things going even if you have left your notebook computer at home. We don’t know much about the phone because Samsung is pretty coy over revealing the details and hence we cannot tell you anything about the image quality. Samsung i7410 is a very stylish and sleek looking mobile phone having 3.2 inches touch screen which gives a resolution of 240x400 pixels and has support for 262k colors. Images on the screen look  [...]

Samsung B320 – A flip design phone

thumbnail
Samsung B320 is a clamshell design phone and this device is made for people who just want to make phone calls. If you are looking for high end smartphone like features, stay away from this handset. I would recommend the B320 for people who are using a cell phone for the first time, or for senior citizens or for people who aren’t really enthusiastic about gadgets. Samsung B320 has a glossy body which attracts a lot of finger prints. I would recommend you to keep a cleaning cloth close to wipe away all the finger prints or else it might look dirty. The external screen is an inch big (measured diagonally) and it has a resolution of 96x96 pixels. You can adjust the color brightness of this display and it does show you all the basic things that you’d look for in an external device like caller ID, signal strength, etc. The internal display of the Samsung B320 is relatively bigger at 1.77 inches and you get a resolution of 128x160 pixels. This  [...]

Samsung Transform – Good mid range messaging phone

thumbnail
Samsung Transform is a midrange Android smartphone from Sprint and it is running on Android 2.1 OS. However, the service provider has promised that they will be issuing a 2.2 update pretty soon. Transform is a glossy black device like many that I have previously seen from this manufacturer. The front face is dominated by a 3.5 inch display and beneath the screen, there are four touch sensitive buttons. Above the screen, there is a VGA camera meant to be used to video conferencing. This phone doesn’t have the AMOLED screen that you’d find on higher end smartphones from this manufacturer. Samsung is running short of AMOLED screens and is setting up a new production unit to increase the number. On the back, you have a 3.2 megapixel camera which can record videos as well. Next to the camera, there is the flash which gives you good quality photos in the dark.  [...]

Samsung Craft SCH-r900 – Best MetroPCS phone to date

thumbnail
This is a phone from MetroPCS and the service provider gave us quite a surprise when it launched the first commercial LTE phone here in the US. They also launched the LTE 4G network in Dallas and Las Vegas. Samsung Craft SCH-r900 does have some sophisticated features but it is not a smartphone. The phone runs on Samsung’s standard OS having TouchWi interface and doesn’t support calendar syncing and push e-mail. However, this is still the highest end phones that you’d get from MetroPCS. It has HD video playback support, touch screen display, and widgets for the TouchWiz interface. Samsung Craft SCH-r900 might boast of being the LTE phone in the market but you will get the fast 4G speeds only in the carrier’s LTE markets. If your area is not covered, all you get is 2.5G speeds. MetroPCS has 3G network only in Detroit and Dallas. We are based in San Francisco and this place is not 4G covered so I tested the phone on standard network. I will update this review  [...]

Samsung Fascinate – Problems with the GPS

thumbnail
Samsung Fascinate was first seen at Galaxy S event from Samsung long time ago and I am glad to see that the company has finally brought the handset to the market. This phone looks quite similar to Vibrant by the same manufacturer. Fascinate is doesn’t have downright sexy looks but I really liked the simple design. Vibrant had a cheap plastic feel but the Fascinate is much sturdier. Samsung Fascinate is a big 4-inch super AMOLED touch screen and it is really good. The sharpness is superior as compared to other phones and the text is pretty easy to read. You will have a great time watching videos on this big screen. There is built in accelerometer too. Finally, there is the iPhone like pinch to zoom feature which stretches your pictures with just pinch. The screen is quite responsive too The interface is user friendly, just like most Samsung  [...]
