Nokia BH-902 – with an OLED display

thumbnail
I have seen a lot of Bluetooth headsets having OLED displays but I haven’t been impressed by them simply because they are not of much use in a headset. It is more of a novelty than a useful feature. Nokia BH-902 has an OLED screen and the headset’s call quality too is quite good. The display shows details like Recent Calls and also the Caller ID. People having compatible Nokia handsets will also have an icon flashing if there is any unread message. I liked the sound quality and the stylish look of the headset. The device is very comfortable to wear in the ear too. The only problem is the price. At $169.99, it is a bit higher than what competition offers. Nokia BH-902 looks quite modern, there are curved corners on the rectangular shaped design and the device has a piano flat black surface. The gadget is 0.98 inches wide, 2.08 inches long and 0.47 inch deep. The OLED display makes the device a bit bigger than other Bluetooth headsets. The screen is one inch big,  [...]

Loughran Nokia MD UK dumps the company

thumbnail
Mark Loughran was Nokia’s MD for UK and Ireland. He has announced that he will has resigned from the company and will be joining ‘Pace’ which makes set-top-boxes. Nokia is going through a lot of changes in its management line up. First it was the company CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo who was fired owing to the poor handset sales. Then Nokia VP Anssi Vanjoki soon resigned and many people believe it was because Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo was terminated by Nokia. Jorma Ollila, the Nokia chairman, too resigned soon after that. When contacted Nokia about this but they declined to comment. We also don’t know who will be replacing him. Loughran joined Nokia, the Finnish cell phone maker, way back in 2007 and he was made the MD for UK and Ireland in early 2009. It has been a year since then and Loughran says he is looking forward to see what Pace has to offer. The dynamism of the people at Pace is quite impressive, according to Loughran. He says Pace  [...]

Nokia Mirage 2605 – Poor call quality

thumbnail
Nokia Mirage 2605 is an entry level phone made just for calling other people but the call quality is not that good and hence I wont recommend this phone even to entry level users. The phone has a backlit keypad which is really spacious along with large numbers. However, the buttons are flush with the surface and give a cheap feeling when pressed. I didn’t have any problems while texting or dialing during my review but I am concerned about the long term durability of the keypad. The phone has two displays, one on the lid which has 128x128 pixels resolution. It shows you photo caller ID, date, signal strength, time and battery life. The internal display is a bit better with two inch (diagonally measured) size however it is still a bit small considering the size of the phone. This display supports 262k colors. Nokia Mirage 2605 has 500 entry limit phone book, a single entry can take multiple phone numbers and e-mail addresses. You can make groups of your callers  [...]

Dell Aero – Outdated smartphone

thumbnail
Dell Aero was first announced at CTIA 2010 and this handset is the first smartphone from this company in the US. Dell announced this handset long time but then things went dead and I thought Dell had dropped the idea of manufacturing the phone. This phone is a proof that not everyone can do an Apple. Just because you are successful with computers; it doesn’t mean the other products too will be good. Aero is far behind other smartphones available in the market. It runs on an outdated system and I was disappointed by its limited feature set, slow operation and Dell’s UI which makes the phone unintuitive and hence frustrating to use. I don’t know what Dell and AT&T were thinking when they made this phone. The cost of this phone is $100 and I certainly won’t recommend buying this phone. If you can afford to spend $30 more, there is the HTC Aria but you have handsets like iPhone 3GS and Palm Pre Plus if you want to stick to the $100 budget limit. Dell Aero is  [...]

Nokia’s OPK is replaced by ex Microsoft man, Stephen Elop

thumbnail
Nokia has changed its leadership. Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, the CEO and President will be leaving with immediate effect and his position will be taken by Stephen Elop. Nokia is a Finnish company and now it will be led by a Canadian. Elop, an engineer has previously worked with Adobe Systems, Macromedia and Juniper Networks for the position of senior executive. OPK will vacate the position of President and CEO but will continue to be on the chairmen’s board at Nokia Siemens Networks. OPK has been working at Nokia for the past 30 years and for this long period of service, the company will be giving him a severance package. Nokia will pay him ten months of base gross salary and also a target incentive. This totals to around €4.6 million. Finally, he will be given 100,000 restricted Nokia shares. Stephen Elop, the  [...]

Samsung Fascinate – Problems with the GPS

thumbnail
Samsung Fascinate was first seen at Galaxy S event from Samsung long time ago and I am glad to see that the company has finally brought the handset to the market. This phone looks quite similar to Vibrant by the same manufacturer. Fascinate is doesn’t have downright sexy looks but I really liked the simple design. Vibrant had a cheap plastic feel but the Fascinate is much sturdier. Samsung Fascinate is a big 4-inch super AMOLED touch screen and it is really good. The sharpness is superior as compared to other phones and the text is pretty easy to read. You will have a great time watching videos on this big screen. There is built in accelerometer too. Finally, there is the iPhone like pinch to zoom feature which stretches your pictures with just pinch. The screen is quite responsive too The interface is user friendly, just like most Samsung  [...]

Nokia 7205 Intrigue (Verizon Wireless) – Very stylish

thumbnail
Nokia 7205 Intrigue is a phone made for fashion conscious people and it looks very attractive. But sometimes, it feels that the manufacturer has tried too hard. For instance, the navigation array has a cross button for navigation instead of the traditional circular or square button. It took some time to get used to this button. The keypad of the phone has two options – faded pink and faded silver. I got the silver version in my labs for testing and both the handsets are same except for the change in color. The rows are separated by silver ridges, the keys are slippery and flat on the surface. I didn’t have much problems while typing long pieces of text. There is enough backlighting for the buttons. The letters and numbers on the buttons have standard size. Nokia 7205 Intrigue’s contact book can take 500 entries which is a bit small. Normally these phones take 1000 entries. A single entry can store multiple phone numbers and e-mail addresses. You can make groups of your friends  [...]

Kyocera Neo E1100 – With Bluetooth

thumbnail
This is a clamshell phone which goes by two names in the market - Kyocera Neo and Kyocera E1100.  This phone is covered by MetroPCS. The handset has a very glossy body which easily attracts a lot of fingerprints. I would recommend you to keep a cleaning cloth close, if you are a hygiene freak because the prints make the phone look very ugly. The phone is very stylish and the coolest thing about it is the light pipe which runs on the lid. The light blinks when you get a call and this adds to the aesthetic appeal of the phone. This light pipe surrounds the camera lens too.  Being a flip type phone, there is an external display on the lid which is very small. It just shows the time and date and is not visible when the backlighting is off. Characters on the external display are very small and not easy to read. To switch it on, you just have to press the volume rocker button. I wish the screen was a bit bigger, I was expecting the numeric caller ID too. The external display is also hard  [...]
