Motorola Backflip – First Android phone from AT&T

thumbnail
AT&T had announced that it would launch its first Android Device in February and has come up with the new – Motorola Backflip. This smartphone was one of the big announcements in CES 2010 and was awarded the “Best of CES 2010” awards in “cell phones and smartphones” category. It features QWERTY keyboard, 5-megapixel camera, numerous wireless options and trackpad located behind the LCD display. But the Backflip smartphone has some performance issues and uses Google Android 1.5 as operating system. If you are waiting for some improved and upgraded features, then maybe you should wait for a little while because four other Android smartphones are expected to launch in upcoming months. Motorola Backflip costs $99.99 and comes along with a two-year contract from AT&T after mail-in rebate of $100. Motorola says that keyboard is rugged. The display size is smaller than that of other smartphones. The keyboard is a matter of concern as it is exposed at the back. The company also  [...]

Samsung Caliber review – a touch screen multimedia handset

thumbnail
Samsung Caliber is a touch screen phone which has made its way to U.S. Cellular, which is a regional carrier from Chicago. The service hasn’t had a lot of phones from Samsung, in fact the only other product was Samsung Delve which was released last year. Compared to Delve, the Caliber has a bigger display; it has multiple menu screens as well as additional home screens. This handset also looks a lot different from Delve. The latter had a rectangular look whereas this phone is long and lean. The call quality of the Caliber is good and the handset is great for multimedia features that it offers however the touch screen is not responsive and if you lack patience you will get frustrated pretty quickly with the handset.  On the bright side, the display is big, doesn’t have a low resolution and gives a haptic feedback, to show that the device has registered your tap. Caliber will set you back by $319.95 without any contract obligations. Other goodies on the phone include a full HTML browser,  [...]

Samsung Trill – Music centric phone

thumbnail
All wireless carriers in the U.S. are attracted towards music phones, because everyone has a craze to hear on-the-air and already stored songs. Music phones are not too advanced or comparable to smartphones. Still they just have one capability to provide the best music experience, which makes them better than any other phone. Samsung Trill is one such music phone for U.S. Cellular. It almost looks a duplicate of Samsung Trance for Verizon Wireless, but has some differences. Samsung Trill is available for $19.99 from U.S. Cellular after $50 mail-in rebate. It has same curvaceous shape like the Trance to resemble resonant of guitar or violin. The Trill phone features 3.5mm headset jack, micro-SD card slot and Bang & Olufsen ICEPower technology based music player. The navigation controls on the phone are crowded and camera’s picture quality is average. The overall call quality was good during test. If you need a budget friendly exciting music phone with 1.3-megapixel camera, then you  [...]

Samsung Propel SGH-A767 – Impressive high end features

thumbnail
Samsung Propel SGH-A767 is one of the latest messaging phones from AT&T apart from Pantech Matrix. It seems that text messaging craze is spanning in U.S.A. The Propel SGH-A767 offers QWERTY keyboard, multimedia features and 3G support. Propel costs $79.95 with two years contract from AT&T after mail-in rebate. Its design is similar to Verizon Wireless Blitz, both of them have square like shape and slides out for physical QWERTY keyboard. However, the Propel is thinner than the Blitz. In addition, the Propel is not as curvier as the Blitz. Verizon Wireless Blitz appears cuddlesome and cute, whereas the Propel looks more mean and lean. Unfortunately, the Propel has flat navigation array and cramped keyboard. The phone comes with a 1.3 megapixel camera which gave us decent quality images but again, you cannot expect too much from a 1.3 MP camera. If you need a messaging phone that supports POP3/IMAP4/SMTP and does not mind cramped QWERTY keyboard and lackluster display, then go ahead  [...]

Nokia N86 review –An attempt to replace entry level camera

thumbnail
Nokia N86 was firstly brought to us in the GSMA 2009 and it is on of the best camera phones amongst N-series with its 8-megapixel camera. The company has worked hard to replace point-and-shoot camera with the N86. We are not sure if the attempt is success full, but this camera is better than other cameras that you will find in phones. Quality is better both in video and photo. Nokia had also upgraded the phone design. It is not the only phone that offers 8-megapixel camera. Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot C905 offers 8.1-megapixel camera, whereas Samsung Memoir offers 8-megapixel camera. Unlocked Nokia N86 costs around $500, but continues to have Symbian operating system, outdated software and low resolution display. If you aren’t a shutter bug freak then we will recommend you to go for Palm Pre or Apple iPhone 3GS. Both of them offers better features, high-resolution touch screen and advanced operating system in less price. However, if you need a complete camera phone then you can buy Nokia  [...]

HTC Touch2 – Without support for U.S. 3G

thumbnail
Microsoft had announced on September 1 that latest Windows Mobile 6.5 will be shipped with first batch of smartphones running its mobile OS from October 6. Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer HTC had announced on the next day to launch HTC Touch2 with latest Windows Mobile 6.5. Now, HTC Touch2 is available in the market and its cost was also not released during press time. The Touch 2 has a revamped design of its successors HTC Touch and Touch 3G. Being an entry-level smartphone, the Touch2 lacks some luxury features such as accelerometer and high-resolution screen. Windows Mobile 6.5 has brought several new enhancements and exciting applications like Microsoft MyPhone Backup service and upcoming launch of Windows Marketplace. There are also improvements in user-interface. We agree that the changes are revolutionary, but still they result into making Windows Mobile smartphones more user-friendly. There are little chances that HTC Touch2 will actually come to the United States. It will be  [...]
