Motorola Devour – Delivers on performance and features

thumbnail
Motorola made a lot of money with Droid last year, it was a big hit in the smartphone market. Motorola Droid was the first phone for Google Android OS that offered numerous features and satisfactory performance. Now, the company has launched Motorola Devour to repeat its success. It is also the first smartphone to bring MotoBlur interface in the market. The touch-screen display of this phone is small and work has to be done to improve user controls. Still, the Devour remains solid member of the Android family. It is a good alternative for the Droid smartphone. Motorola Devour costs around $149 with a contract from Verizon Wireless with mail-in-rebate. As a result, the Devour has $50 less cost as compared to its predecessor, Motorola Droid. On the down side, the camera has less features and the display is small as per the size of phone. If you like the new MotoBlur interface and do not mind the small display size, then go ahead and buy the Motorola Devour.

thumbnail
Every major carriers has used the HTC Touch Pro2, whereas, its sibling HTC Touch Diamond2 stayed in shadows as it was available unlocked. Now, the company has launched new HTC Pure for AT&T that comes with new Windows Mobile 6.5. HTC Pure costs around $149.99 with two-year AT&T’s contract with $50 mail-in rebate. The Pure serves better user-friendly experience and much simpler interface than previous Windows Mobile phones. It has revamped Internet Explore Mobile Web browser that offers fine navigation and browsing experience. Microsoft has also added its services in an Application Store and a My Phone Backup service. HTC Pure and LG Incite are two touch-screen alternatives for AT&T from Apple iPhone. As a result, the Pure will get a tough competition from both iPhone and the Incite. Still, we are with the Apple iPhone for better features and user-experience than HTC Pure. However, if you need good balance of entertainment and business features then you can consider the new  [...]

Motorola Entice W766 review – Great call quality

thumbnail
Motorola has released its new clamshell handset – Entice W766 for Verizon Wireless. It looks like the Rapture VU30 that was released by the company last year. However, the W766 is not shiny and sleek as the Rapture. Motorola Entice W766 has touch-sensitive external keys, EV-DO support and 2-megapixel camera. Overall, it is a good and midrange handset that offers good call quality and multimedia features. Motorola Entice W766 costs around $19.99 with two-year contract from Verizon Wireless and mail-in rebate of $70. The W766 has dedicated controls for music player, Bluetooth and speakerphone on the lid, so there is no need to open the phone to access these options. We weren’t much fond of these buttons but still it is nice to have them. It still provides below-average streaming video quality. The complete front surface is reflective, it is a fingerprint magnet. It captures fingerprints even on gentle touch. If you need a midrange handset with good call quality, then you can buy the new  [...]

Motorola Barrage – rugged folder type 3G phone

thumbnail
Motorola has a great history of manufacturing cell phones. Now, the company has launched rugged handset, Motorola Barrage for Verizon Wireless. It is flip-design phone covered with tough plastic and rubber sidings. The rugged phone by Motorola offers decent call quality and functional feature set. The Barrage costs around $179 without any contract, it is also available with a 2 year contract from Verizon Wireless. This will cost you $129 along with a $50 mail-in rebate. Motorola Barrage handset does not have an attractive design but it is enough strong to handle shocks. We tested this by throwing the phone around and even put in inside the water. The handset could withstand all this. If you need a rugged handset that offers functional features, then we will recommend new Motorola Barrage. However, there were a few disappointments on the phone. Its 3G connection was a bit slow. Music and video quality too were unimpressive. We don’t think the latter is too important in a phone like this.  [...]

thumbnail
Unlike other GPS-enabled smartphones, Garmin Nuvifone G60 comes preloaded with voice guided-directions and maps, so you do not have to subscribe for a premium location-based service. Garmin has 20 years of experience in the GPS market and it has a great history of manufacturing perfect portable navigation devices (PNDs). However, it still has to work to manufacture a better smartphone. The Nuvifone G60 is based on Linux operating system. It offers features like document viewer, email, calendar, HTML Browser, Wi-Fi, 3G Support, and more. However, the Nuvifone has limitations for each of the feature and still has some problem in its system and user-interface. The Garmin smartphone costs around $299.99 with two-year contract from AT & T. As the Garmin Nuvifone G60 is not a finished product, we would advise the manufacturer to work more in making this a better handset. There are other GPS-enabled smartphones by AT & T in the same price range and we strongly recommend you to skip the  [...]

thumbnail
RIM BlackBerry is one of the most famous manufacturers in the smartphones business. Now, the company has released RIM BlackBerry Curve 8530 for Verizon Wireless. It does not have some high-end features of BlackBerry Tour 9630 like high-resolution display and world roaming. The design and basic features of the Curve 8530 are similar to RIM BlackBerry Curve 8520 from T-Mobile. However, the Curve 8530 also offers some more features. The RIM BlackBerry Curve 8530 has various upgrades over its predecessor BlackBerry Curve 8330, like dedicated media controls, optical track-pad and latest processor. In addition, the Curve 8530 has Wi-Fi that was not present in the Tour 9630. RIM BlackBerry Curve 8530 costs $99.99 with a two-year contract from Verizon Wireless, which is $30 less as compared to price of the Curve 8520 for T-Mobile. The phone feels a bit cheap in the hand due to the plastic exteriors. We also didn’t like the fact that you cannot save applications to the phone’s internal memory.

The Mural 6750 has inbuilt AT&T Navigator and a Where application for local search, which are based on integrated Assisted-GPS. Nokia representatives told us that the handset is made from 80 percent recycled plastic. The box packing has 25 percent recycled material and the user manual has 10 percent recycled paper. The handset is free from materials like CFCs, benzene and asbestos. Slim design of the Nokia Mural 6750 phone gives a bit of a dated look to the product.
